Google has admitted that it committed a mistake by wrongly depicting certain parts of north-east India's Arunachal Pradesh as Chinese territory, and promised to correct the maps soon.According to a statement by a Google spokesperson, "Earlier this week, as part of routine update to Google Earth, we published new data for the Arunachal Pradesh region that changed the depiction of certain place names in the product. The change was a result of a mistake in our processing of new map data."

There was speculation in media circles that Chinese hackers had attacked Google Earth which led to the wrong depiction of Indian territory as Chinese in the maps on google Earth. "We would like to clarify that this issue did not impact our depiction of international borders," the Google spokesperson said.Google Earth is a service offered by Google that lets users to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain and 3D buildings.Google Earth had earlier been in the center of another controversy when Indian security agencies had complained that Google Earth exposed Indian defense and other sensitive installations.

The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2009 -To Admit Students In IIMs , Will Be Conducting From 28 November To 7 December...

The Common admission Test is being held for the past 33 years to select suitable students for the IIMs. Though the patter has changed with time, the exam was always scheduled on a one session and one day basis. This had never changed till the CAT exams were decided to go online. The computerized tests would mean every student is given with a computer to appear the tests. This is the reason why the higher authorities who conduct the exams have decided to go for a 10 day long schedule with two test sessions in a day.

The CAT tests are scheduled to be held from 28th November to 7th December. The students who have applied this year get the freedom to choose test session, i.e., morning or evening and test center and date as well but this will again be subject to center availability. This year 3 lakh students are expected to apply. The vouchers would be sold from 9th September to October 1st as well as the online registration.

Twitter:The Famous Micro-Blogging Site Has Been Attacked As Denial-Of-Service....Previously It Attacked The Facebook Also...

On Thursday, Twitter was taken down by a denial-of-service attack, while Facebook suffered related problems. And other social/media sites like Gawker and Live Journal were hampered by attacks as well. These attacks illustrate just how crucial network security is in a world where organized cyberattacks can bring down even the most prominent sites.

While the news cycle is quickly headed to the point of diminishing returns (lots of ruminations on DDoS, where the attacks originated, and how it was done), I've yet to see posts on how such attacks can be prevented. In light of Twitter's susceptibility, preventing networks from similar attacks must be on the minds of many organizations. The right tools help IT personnel get to the root of the problem. Having the appropriate tools in place and following the correct procedures helps eliminate or mitigate the effects of an attack. At least that's what John Pescatore, a security analyst at research firm Gartner, said was the hard lesson that Twitter has learned. "It basically just shows that Twitter wasn't spending the money to filter out DDoS attacks," he said, according to an article in the Los Angeles Times.

Any Type Of Mobile Phones Are Banned In CBSE Schools...board Says These Are Causing Major Distraction Of Their minds...

Parents of kids who study in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools will be relieved to know that the cell phone bills will decrease a bit. That's because the students of CBSE schools will not be allowed to use cell phones when in school campus. What more, this might just help them concentrate on their curriculum better. In fact, the restriction has been imposed on use of cell phones by anyone on school campus, be it students, teachers, or any other working staff. The purpose of this move is to recreate the good old cellular phone-free, distraction less environment in educational institutions.

The CBSE Board explains its decision pertaining to cell phones having become a ''serious cause of distraction, lack of concentration, anxiety, fear and sometimes even misuse. Even if the mobiles are in silent mode, they can be a source of disturbance within the classroom as students can make use of Short Messaging Service (SMS) during the class or even during an assignment. The cameras which are a common feature now in most mobile phones can also be misused.''However, the circular clarifies that the school authorities may provide land line telephone/s from where the teachers and students can make calls in need and emergency, if necessary. There could be a centralized system of receiving and recording calls for teachers and students of the school.

The City-Based Odyssey Technologies Devolop A Software Product To Regularly Check And Improve The Agricultural Fields In India....

City-based Odyssey Technologies Ltd has developed a software product that has the potential to change the way verifications are carried out by banks, insurance firms and other agencies to enrol clients. The product, it is claimed, could usher in a system of paperless verification system to enrol customers. It requires just a mobile phone to speed up the verification process and save cost.

Named Odyssey Epic, the product is typically loaded into a mobile phone that has a GPRS connection, a camera and a Windows operating system, to create a paperless verification and enrolment system. The verification process using Odyssey Epic typically works thus. A visiting agent of an enrolling organisation captures the data relating to the client in his Odyssey Epic-loaded mobile phone using the in-built camera. He takes the picture of the person who is enrolled and also the `verification' document (say, a driving licence).

The software application (Odyssey Epic) converts the textual inputs and images into a single PDF document. The agent then digitally signs it, using the smart card in the phone and a digital certificate that is previously issued to the agent. This ensures the `authenticity and integrity' of the collected data, facilitating the enrolling organisation to store them directly. The security features were encrypted in an external mobile security card, Mr. Raja said. Odyssey would provide the software (in the mobile and at the backend of the client) to customers for Rs.5,000 to Rs.7,000 per agent.
